Logo Design
Taking inspiration from the Android Material Design guidelines, I explored a simplifed representation of a barcode. The grey slice through representing scanning and the yellow/white circle around the outside was part of the departmental branding.

This was quite a departure from the app icons used by Trimble up until this point, which were very literal and hyper-realistic. While definitely not perfect I'm still happy with the result. Letting go of some control was an interesting experiment.
App Design
My goal was to create a simple and easy to use interface. As I was both designing and developing this project, I didn't want the scope getting out of hand. The biggest part of this was adding code to blur the last image from the camera, so it was easier for the user to type in the code if the barcode scanning had not worked.

Users would type or scan the serial, and it would lookup the information, handling missing fields and also allowing next-steps for the information provided. Another team member then developed a web version of this tool.
